Jane Seymour’s Irish private investigator series Harry Wild has proven to be a fan favourite for Acorn TV. To celebrate, the current S4 ends with a bang with a feature length episode that has all the series’ bells and whistles. Seymour’s deeply intuitive approach to her work, is aided by her young, rather brilliant “intern” Fergus (Rohan Nedd) who shares her gift and drive for the job. They attend the wedding of Vicky and Cormac, a couple of upper crusties and everyone’s having fun until a body’s discovered i in the ballroom, victim of poisoning via Amazonian bullet frog toxin. Their initial investigation, reluctantly allowed by local police who could use all hands-on deck, leads to a suspect, a family member who then flees the country. Of all things, American FBI agents show up to take charge of the case, after a busy serial killer; a local has bright blue rims around his iris, indicating he too has been poisoned. Seems he’s having an affair with the mother of his schoolmate who believes he wants her dead for her money. Interesting sidekicks lend piquancy to the special, as they examine wildly differing reasons to suspect a number of folks. Then two professional assassins are in their midst and the FBI links the target’s ideology to a group that murdered US President McKinley. Lots to think about. Oh and the final reveal – never saw that coming. Streaming now.
