Jennifer Baichwal Tackles the Agrochemical Industry’s Toxic Practices in the Shattering Documentary Into the Weeds.

in Entertainment, What She Said on 05/15/22

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal tells the story of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, a former Bay Area groundskeeper whose long battle with cancer believed caused by his exposure to the common weed killers RoundUp and RangerPro. Bayer, the multinational agrochemical corporation that makes them has falsely claimed the product is “safe to drink” and poses no harm to humans. Decades of studies prove otherwise. Baichwal gives us a unique view of Johnson’s class-action lawsuit against Bayer from farmers, chemists, doctors, and finally inside the courtroom. She took extraordinary care to protect Johnson, the crew, and herself. What She Said’ Anne Brodie spoke with Baichwal about the herbicides, still sold in your local garden supply store.
