Debbie Travis & Pillitteri Estates Winery, a Perfect Pairing!

in Latest Updates, Lifestyle, What She Said on 11/29/16

Origin2015pillitteri-logoally planted in Niagara in the 1980’s it has become one of the signature grapes of Pillitteri Estates Winery.  It also happens to be one of our best performing grapes in the vineyard.   Some varietals perform well in the cooler summers while others love those hot dry summers, like the one we had this year.  Pinot Grigio happens to do well in moderate dt-pinosummers with some rain.  Traditionally an Italian grape, today it is grown in just about every major winemaking region , a testament to its true versatility. It is one of the most difficult wines to make, particularly in the traditional Italian style.  At Pillitteri we have embraced the challenge.  Being a family winery of Italian ancestry, Gary Pillitteri prides himself on doing things the old world way, the original way and the right way.  As a young man he remembers working in the vineyards at his Pinot Grigio is one of the most widely planted and popular varietals of wine
.
home in Sicily, growing the grapes and working with his father to make wine.  Now in Niagara-on-the-Lake he works tirelessly to maintain the same quality standard and produce a Pinot Grigio that closely resembles the same one’s made in Italy.

It turns out that Gary’s focus on Pinot Grigio was a perfect pairing for Debbie Travis who, having recently started her Tuscan retreats in Italy was looking for a wine to bridge the gap between her new Italian lifestyle and her Canadian roots.  Our initial meeting was full of discussion about Italy, wine and what we are doing here in Niagara.  From the winery’s perspective we were thrilled to see how passionate Debbie was about becoming a part of the Niagara wine industry.  Debbie knows that Canadian wines have reached world class prominence.   As we tasted through many different wines, some Canadian some Italian and some French, we found a common ground.  Debbie
knew what she liked and wanted to make her wine following the same traditional methods that we successfully use at Pillitteri.  The partnership grscreen-shot-2016-11-29-at-5-09-06-pmew naturally and in the spring of 2016 we launched the Debbie Travis Pinot Grigio.  The wine is really an expression of Debbie’s personality; it is flavourful, vibrant, lush and bold, with a bit of sharpness to it.  It is a social wine.  It works well at the dinner table, pairing with just about any  meal, great for sipping with friends because it is
fresh and crisp.  Finally, how about that label?  Thanks to Debbie’s designer eye the label is classy and wonderful.

If you are looking for a versatile wine to enjoy tonight, tomorrow or any day, the Debbie Travis Pinot Grigio is the wine.  We are so proud to be working with Debbie and we  know the wine offers incredible value, an authentic blend of old world Italian charm but with a Niagara twist.  Pick up a bottle today online at Pillitteri.com or visit the LCBO today and grab a bottle for only $15.95
