A New League of Their Own Reflects Today’s Zeitgeist, But Retains Its Vintage Charm as Ladies Go To Bat! Meet the Stars

in Entertainment, What She Said on 08/07/22

A new interpretation of the enduring story of women forming a baseball league as their men fight World War II manages to straddle two cultures. Women pre-liberation didn’t enjoy the cultural freedoms we have today, but Prime Video’s energised, modernised series goes there. Melanie Field plays Joy an openly gay player, and D’Arcy Carden is Greta, who sees social change coming. The story is lightning in a bottle, as men and women fight wars together now, illustrating the growing frustrations of repressed women of the 40s. What She Said’ Anne Brodie spoke with Field and Carden.
